The Club Tournament for 2005-6 Qualifiers took place on 23rd September at Bugsy's, Cliftonville. Once again there was a very poor response with only 54 entries from about 500 invitations sent out.
Nearly half the entries came from Chatham's Earlybirds League, so what happened to everyone else?
As I said last month, we advertised this tournament well in advance and made sure that the entry forms were distributed early. We also tried to keep the costs down to a minimum, charging only £12.50 per entry. This just covered the costs of 3 games per person and £4 prize fund plus expenses and was about as low as possible so we are at a loss to know why it was so poorly attended.
The Club tournament for qualifiers during the 2006-7 season will be held early in 2008. You can check to see if you have been registered as a qualifier by your league secretary by going to the Club tournament pages on this website. If you believe you had a qualifying score that filled all the criteria and your name is not listed, you should download the form, complete it and get it signed by the league secretary then submit it as soon as possible. We do hope that there will be more entries for the 2006-7 Tournament, It is getting to the stage where we wonder if it is worth going to all the effort of organising tournaments for so few people. Email your comments to me - see link at foot of page.
The Kent Junior Roll-Offs were held at Margate and Cliftonville on the last weekend in September. A full report, including pictures of the six teams of successful bowlers, is featured on the website.
The Bert and Vicky Timms Tournament takes place on the 11th November at Bugsy's, Cliftonville.
Hopefully a few more of you will be interested in taking part! There are both handicap and scratch sections and it is a re-entry tournament.
Work on the website continues, although most of the main features are now complete. One thing that is missing throughout the website is imput from you, the bowlers. We would love to hear about your triumphs - or disasters! Unless we are told about them we can't report them! We now have a page where we show the highest scores for the 2007-8 season which should be constantly updated. However, we only have three league secretaries contacting us with relevant scores. There must be some good bowling taking place at Bexleyheath, Cliftonville and Whitstable - no one is telling us about them!
The section showing historic copies of Bowling News now has a variety of issues on offer covering more than 40 years of various KTBA/SEBA topics.
We are now almost two months into the new season so I would like to take this opportunity to remind League Secretaries that they should have sent their final League Standing Sheets to the Area Secretary by now. We are going to use them to compile a list of the top averages in the county for the 2006-7 season which will appear on the website soon.
It would be nice to have some feedback from you telling us what you think of the website. We are always open to new ideas. This website is for you, the bowlers of Kent - so tell us what you want!
