KENT BOWLING NEWS

Editorial - January 2008

I hope that you all had a really good Christmas. All of us at the KTBA wish you every success for 2008!

BUGSYS AND LEWISHAM BOWLS BOTH UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP

Bugsys Cliftonville has recently been acquired by LMP Bowling Ltd - click here for further details.

AMF Lewisham is now operating as a "First Bowl" following its recent acquisition by Monarch Leisure.

TOURNAMENTS

The Club Tournament for qualifiers in the 2006-7 season is taking place at AMF Gravesend on Sunday 27th January 2008. The sanctioning of the tournament was delayed over the Christmas period and therefore the forms went out a little later than we would have liked. We do hope that those of you who have qualified will take up your invite and take part in the competition. The winner of the 600 Club will get an automatic invite into the 2008 Masters event at our Area Championships in May. The lady in the 500 Club who scores the highest scratch series will also be invited into the Masters.

There are several other events coming up soon, namely:

The BTBA National Championships will be held at Charrington Bowl Tolworth on March 8, 9, 15 & 16. For further details and entry form, go to www.btba.org.uk/nationals.

The Kent Roll-offs (to win a place in the Adult & Senior Kent teams) are due to be held in April and the Kent Area Championships in May. Further details to follow.

For the Over 50's you can take part in the AMF Senior Singles tournament which comes to AMF Gravesend on April 12 & 13.

A full Seniors Tournament Calendar for 2008 is shown on our Seniors News pages.

HIGH SCORES

We have had various reports of high scores to be featured on our Season's Highs for 2007-8 page. They have mostly come from the Olympic League at Gravesend and the Earlybirds league at Chatham. These highs have already been reported on our Latest News page and details can be found there. We are still waiting for claims for high scores in the trios category and believe that there are possibly some higher scores that could be featured in the doubles IF ONLY WE KNEW ABOUT THEM!!! Please keep us informed!

SENIOR BOWLING

The AMF Senior Masters was held on the 7th December at AMF Nottingham with a prize fund in excess of £3000 up for grabs!

Two of our Kent men were invited to take part, having finished in the top 36 in the final standings, Chris Skudder and Steve Carnall.

Chris got off to a slow start but a late flurry of 200+ games bought his pinfall up to 1575 (195 average) and the addition of bonus points took him to 1631 and 17th place! Steve Carnall averaged 200 over his 8 games but, with only an age bonus of 1 per game, finished in 23rd place.

The 2008 AMF Seniors Tour has already started and a complete schedule is shown on our Seniors Tournament Calendar. We will look forward to reporting Kent successes in these events.

JUNIOR BOWLING

Kirsty Belchem and Chelsie Pyle from Whitstable YBC have been selected for the England

Youth Squad and will be going to Helsinki in March. The hard work and dedication shown

by the girls and the team at Whitstable YBC have paid off.

We would like to wish them the very best of luck and hope that it proves to be a memorable

experience for them. We will establishing a link to the tournament's own website so you will

be able to follow their progress as it happens!

The ktba agm will be held on Saturday 9th february 2008.
